This year’s ABC AGM was held at the News Limited Theatre in Sydney on Wednesday,  September 9, 2009 with more than 70 people in attendance to elect the General and Executive Committees. Please click here to view the ABC General Committee and Executive Committee.

This year’s guest speaker, Glenn J. Hansen, CEO and President of BPA Worldwide commended the ABC on meeting the challenge of auditing screen media. He further encouraged AGM guests to continue to think ‘outside the box to remain at the forefront of the industry’s mindset’. Click here to download a full copy of Glenn Hansen’s speech.

In his address Dr Stephen Hollings, the ABC Chairman noted this year significant new products and services have been launched while the face of the Audit Bureau in its website has been transformed from a fairly ordinary site to a functional e-portal”

Dr Hollings went on to say “In line with previous practice the ABC has worked to continue to ensure that the rules remain in touch with the developments in the marketplace. The ABC will release the first audited figures using the updated Rules on the 10th of November 2009.

In the coming year I confidently expect the Bureau to continue to develop the new services it launched this year and to work even harder to develop its integral role in the Australian media landscape. I think it is fitting that so much has been done in this year of financial hardship considering that the ABC was founded in 1932 – during the Great Depression. It is at these times that the media accountability provided by audited figures becomes even more important to the industry.”

Gordon Towell, CAB CEO, looked to the future in his address to AGM guests reporting on the current and planned developments for the ABC including the set up and launch of a registered Auditor Accreditation programme and the delivery of ‘Audit-On-the-Go’ where ABC members could lodge their numbers month by month.

He also highlighted some of the remarkable changes that have happened in the last 12 months including the launch of new services such as web and digital display audits, the launch of eData and eLodgement as well as the strengthening of our brand through an industry marketing campaign.
